As a retired 80 year old civil engineer, I still know who too go to for quality drawing and drafting products; DEW Drafting Supplies!

5 great mechanical pencil
cartoonPenguin on Mar 30th 2025

of mechanical pencils, I think the Alvin Draftmatics are some of the best, and for the price here, they're definitely the best value for the price.

I especially like it for the 0.3mm - this pencil is heavier with more of a grip, so I can work with a smaller lead without breaking it. And it adjusts for different lead hardness.

Also like the bright yellow color, it stands out and makes this one harder to lose.

4 Draft Matic Mechanical Pencils
Christian on Jun 25th 2024
I have a Draftmatic thats over 10 years old and it still works great, it has been my go to mechanical pencil for years. I bought the set to diversify the lead sizing for various applications and so far so good. I hope the newer ones are built just as good as the older models as I have noticed some design changes.

5 Great Mechanical Pencil Set
JP on Aug 9th 2023
Great mechanical pencil set. Alvin has always had great products. Happy to see them come back. I have the old-style Draft/Matic and wanted to get the new style. DEW was fast and easy to order. Fast shipping. Better price than Amazon. The only small issue was you don't get the box that is shown. Wanted it for display on my desk.

5 Very smooth mechanical pencil
HW on Oct 3rd 2021
This pencil is one of the best mechanical pencils. It is in the league of more expensive pencils like rOtring, but in terms of writing or drawing, it will not disappoint you.

5 These pencils are for the serious artist and draftsman
C.E. on Sep 6th 2021
I regrettably buy them because I need the knurled grip on these, because I have very sweaty hands AND fingers as an artist, and other mechanical pencils just slide out of my grip eventually, which is frustrating. Of course, the standard to which they were engineered is also nice.

5 Alvin draftmatic mechanical pencil
Precise lineman on Aug 29th 2021

Alvin draftmatic mechanical pencils compare favorably with more expensive mechanical pencils I have used . Similar in feel to rOtring 600 at a fraction of the cost. Highly recommended. Dew drafting supplies shipped them fast , packaged right at a great price.

5 Top quality
Mark on May 13th 2021
I am a landscape architect with 24 years of experience. I have been using the same Alvin Draft-Matic (0.7) mechanical pencil for 17 years now. It still functions great. I have worn all of the writing and the metal knurling is a bit smoother than a new pencil, but it still functions like new.

5 ALVIN Draft/Matic mechanical pencils
Professional Surveyor on Apr 20th 2021
These are the finest of quality. I have been in the surveying profession since 1977 and the pencil is a major tool of my trade. Without a doubt, these pencils are the best field and office drawing partners I have ever owned. I bought my first set in the late 1990's when Koh-I-Noor Technical pencils I was using for drafting were no longer available. I rank these above the Koh-I-Noor because of the non-slip body of the unit. The DRAFT?MATIC has a good weight in the hand, is smooth in operation and can be used in a "LEROY" lettering machine or drafting. I use the .03mm, .05mm, .07mm & .09mm in drafting and field note preparation as well as an additional .07mm with blue lead & .09mm with red lead. Colored leads are softer than the typical "H" leads I use.
