Foam Board & Foam Core
Foam board is the material most model builders reach for first. Lightweight, easy to cut, and forgiving enough to handle quick changes without wasting much material. We carry it in a few thicknesses and colors, but if you are not sure where to start, 3/16" is our most popular size and the one most builders default to for general model work.

Picking the Right Thickness
3/16" is the most popular thickness we sell, and for good reason. It is rigid enough to hold its shape for walls and bases, but still light and easy to cut by hand with a hobby knife. If you are building a general model and not sure which thickness to grab, this is the safe default.
1/8" works well when you need something thinner for layered details or lightweight components that will not carry much structural weight. 1/2" is the other end of the range, built for larger bases or models that need extra rigidity and durability.
White, Black, or Cork?
White is the standard choice for most architectural and study models since it keeps the focus on form rather than color. Black foam board is useful when you want contrast or a more finished, gallery style presentation look. Cork foam board gives you a textured, pinnable surface, which makes it useful for display bases as well as model construction.
