Picking the Right Materials
What you build with depends on what stage the project is at. Foam board and chipboard are go to choices for fast concept models and study models where speed matters more than finish. Basswood, styrene, and cork come into play once you are building something meant to be presented or graded, since they hold detail and finish better.
The cutting tools matter just as much as the material. A sharp blade and a real cutting mat make the difference between clean edges and a model that looks rushed. Worn blades tear foam board instead of slicing it, so keep extras on hand.
